A fancier model could have those IR/radio sensors that they use for the exterior doors, for situations where you want to allow one and only one animal in your room, allowing each pet their own 'sanctuary'. It hooks up to a water line and is basically a self filling water bowl. I don't think it would satisfy your cat's desire to experience running water, though.
