When is stability going to finally trump features?
In just about anything related to computers, there’s a tug of war between adding new features or fixing bugs. … in the general computing world, people don’t get sued for bugs, and adding new features is much more fun and sexy than fixing bugs.
I’m in total agreement with this guy. Just going for the free trackback here, heh.

I wonder if the problem with all the feature catch-up is that new technologies just keep popping up and the OS just “has” to support them because that’s what the people want. Why would someone switch from Windows to Linux/FreeBSD if they can’t attach their latest USB/Firewire doodad? They’ll put up with crappiness elsewhere so long as their pet want is fulfilled.

Agreed.
I’d sure love it if FreeBSD would stop using the -RELEASE and -STABLE names for their software, if they’re going that route. They could do what Linux does, where even numbers are supposedly stable (ha ha, 2.4 VM), and odds are devel.
Heh, actually, maybe that IS what FreeBSD is doing!
