I picked up a SanDisk SD card for my camera, and it was packed in that hard plastic packaging you see on electronics and other products — many items at Costco use it. It’s hard to cut, it’s hard to tear. It’s basically completely anti-consumer(anti-user). It turns out, it’s so hard to cut that the handle on my scissors actually broke under the pressure that was required to cut through it. SanDisk: You owe me a pair of Fiskars, dammit.
Added 2006.06.02 I forgot about this: Hard plastic packaging is made by the devil!

You fool! The card won’t work outside of the plastic packaging! You’ve ruined everything!!!

That only encourages me further.

I ascribe the blame to Costco, who probably forced SanDisk to adopt such packaging as a cost-cutting measure to mitigate against theft…Things Are Not As Simple As They Appear.

Costco does seem to be one of the biggest driver of this garbage — local company doing wrong. I have cut myself on pieces of it more times than I remember. I should just be using a utility knife, but I just don’t think about it when I’m opening the package. I’m a kid sometimes.

[...] As I mentioned in a previous post, I broke the handle of my scissors while trying to get in to some plastic packaging. The handle broke on the thumb-part of the scissor (I don’t know the name). Well, turns out, someone from Fiskars saw my post and took it upon himself to send out a sample pair as a replacement. Thanks Jayson! That was very kind. [...]
