Update: malformed.org’s owner found a channel listing. It’s so strange this is such “secret” information. It doesn’t list the 93/100/101 channels of course because they’re On Demand.
I think I may have figured out what caused the PBS Sprout/Softcore pornography issue on channel 101-8. I think channels 93, 100, and 101 are for “on demand” shows. I decided to try and make a list of DTV channels, just for fun, and to try and find more porn. Well, wouldn’t you know it, I found some!
Channel 100-10 had some softcore porn. It was showing interviews with porn actresses and occasionally some action (no pink though). Then suddenly it starts fast forwarding. It stops again at some action, and then when they’re back to the interviews it fast forwards again. I think I might be watching what one of my neighbors is watching.
So yeah, if you’re in the Seattle area, I’d be curious to learn what you’re seeing on channels 93-*, 100-*, and 101-*, to confirm this hypothosis.
So I finally got around to hooking my TV up directly to the cable line, and set it to autoprogram. It found well over 400 channels, and I have the second most basic cable package they offer. Ugh. Turns out, a lot of them are music, and a lot of them are scrambled. But then there are some that are real but boring. Like, say, channel 105-1047 — that’s some Washington State TV channel where they talk about WA government. (Side note: Who thought it was a good idea to add dashes and extra numbers?! That’s 8 damn button pushes.)
There does not appear to be any record or listing describing what channel numbers correspond to what station. It’s kind of frustrating. When I first hooked it up, and was looking around, I happened upon channel 101-8, which was softcore porn. Hey, free porn, on the TV, who can beat that right? Well, I got tired of that in the background after a while, so I shut it off. The next day, it was gone. Gone the next few days as well. I had nearly given up until today when I went to 101-8 and sure enough, it was back — except now it was PBS Sprout. I simply refuse to jerk it to the Berenstain Bears.
If anyone has found a definitive listing of what numbers correspond to what shows, please post. :) Thanks.
Bad marketing tactics: UltraDNS has been hung up on so many times that they’re now just saying they’re “a company that does DNS” when they cold call you. They still won’t let you off the line, you have to hang up on ‘em mid-sentence, because they just won’t shut up even after you tell them you’re not at all interested in their services.
It saddens me that some people must actually respond positively to these tactics.
